The founder
A recovery business that wanted to stop calling.
Ryan started GotYou Telematics in 2012 with a single product idea: vehicle tracking that worked on South African roads, not on a UK datasheet. The company grew on cross-border haulage contracts, then mining, then cold-chain — sectors where a stolen truck doesn’t just cost money, it costs a customer.
Today, GotYou’s support line takes thousands of calls a year. Most are routine. The dreaded ones are the recovery calls — a hijacked vehicle, an account manager calling a customer at 3am, a thirteen-hour wait on the side of the N3 for the truck to be located.
carGuardian exists because Ryan got tired of being on those calls. Recovery is necessary, prevention is better. The product line takes everything the workshop has learned about how SA vehicles get stolen, and stops the theft before the recovery clock starts.
Why now
A prevention product, from a recovery operator.
SA vehicle theft has shifted in the last five years. Tracking and recovery still matter — but the methods used to take the car (key cloning at the gate, workshop diagnostic-tool theft, hijacking at gunpoint) have outpaced the older generation of immobilisers fitted into most cars on the road.
carGuardian is the prevention layer above your tracker. Once-off, fitted, no monthly subscription. Three tiers covering anything from a daily Hilux to a high-value family SUV. Built on the technology platform we run for our 40,000-vehicle fleet customers — now packaged for private owners.
