Toyota Hilux
GD-6 · Legend · Raider · SR5
SA’s #1 stolen vehicle every year since 2017. Targeted for cross-border resale, parts, and farm use. Every Hilux generation 2008–2026 sits on our fitment list.
How carGuardian works
A 4–12 tap sequence on your existing steering-wheel or dashboard buttons. Your buttons get a hidden second function — to anyone watching, you’re fiddling with the radio. Forget the sequence? Fall back to your fob, the app, or a PIN — three safety nets, only you control them.
+ invisible install · factory warranty intact · encrypted & local · drive-away kill
Compatibility
Hilux · Ranger · Fortuner · Polo · Corolla · compatible with the most stolen vehicles in South Africa

Next-Gen Immobiliser · Anti-Theft
A small device our team installs hidden inside your car. To start the engine, you tap a secret code on your existing dashboard buttons — known only to you. Without that code, no one can drive your car — not even a thief holding your keys.

Book My InstallationModern theft has changed
SA syndicates stopped breaking windows years ago. The modern playbook is silent, signal-based, and over in under 60 seconds. Three methods take the majority of vehicles stolen in Gauteng each month — and your factory immobiliser was designed before any of them existed.
Two thieves, two cheap radios. One stands at your front door, one stands at the car. Your factory key signal is amplified across the gap — the car thinks the key is in the driver’s hand. They drive off in 30 seconds. Your key never leaves the house.
A pocket scanner reads your factory key code while you’re in the queue at Woolies. A blank fob is programmed to match in 90 seconds. They walk back to your car at midnight with what the car treats as your spare key.
A R30,000 dealer diagnostic tool plugs into the OBD port behind your steering column. In 90 seconds it programs a brand-new key. The factory immobiliser approves it because it’s “factory” software. Your car drives off legally registered to its new key.
carGuardian closes all three
All three methods rely on the car authenticating against the factory immobiliser — which assumes a working factory key means an authorised driver. carGuardian adds a second authentication layer that has nothing to do with the key. No PIN, no engine — regardless of what the thief brought with them.

How carGuardian works
No app, no remote, no extra tag on your keyring. A private code on the buttons your car already has. Even with a cloned key, the engine refuses to crank without it.
A 4–12 tap sequence on factory buttons you already have — steering wheel, climate, radio. Only you know which buttons. Only you know the order.
· No extra hardware
The unit checks the sequence locally, inside the car. The reference PIN never leaves the unit — not over RF, not over the cloud, and a dealer programmer can’t read it out of the module.
· PIN never leaves the car
Normal start, no delay, no indicator light, nothing for anyone watching to notice. Without your code, the engine refuses — regardless of what key the driver is holding.
· No PIN · no engine
Even with a cloned key
A thief with a perfect clone of your factory key still can’t start the car. The factory immobiliser approves the key; carGuardian still requires your code. Two layers, two different secrets.
Forget the sequence?
Three safety nets, only you control them: encrypted 2.4 GHz keyfob, smartphone app, or call our 24/7 line for a verified recovery PIN. Average call: under 5 minutes.
The list every syndicate works from
The top three vehicles syndicates ask for by name — the Toyota Hilux has been SA’s most-stolen vehicle eight years running. Every one of them is on the carGuardian fitment list. Every one of them walks away locked.
GD-6 · Legend · Raider · SR5

XL · XLT · Wildtrak · Raptor
Keyless-entry trim levels especially exposed to relay attack — the Wildtrak and Raptor are the trims syndicates request. T6 and T7 generations both covered.
Comfortline · Highline · GT · Vivo
Cheapest re-sale on the syndicate list — high volume, fast turnover, easy to part out. Polo Vivo is SA’s most-stolen passenger car. All trims 2010–2026 covered.

Honest take: a tracker is still smart insurance for the worst case (e.g. flatbed theft, which no electronic immobiliser can stop). Most SA owners run both — carGuardian closes the modern attack methods so the tracker is rarely called.
Team-fitted · not customer testimonials — yet
carGuardian isn’t a Kickstarter — it’s the next-gen prevention layer from a 14-year SA telematics company that already runs the recovery stack on thousands of cars, bakkies and fleets. Q3 2026 launch means no founding-cohort customer stories exist yet, and we won’t invent them. What we can show is who’s parked with a unit fitted right now: the people who designed it. Every one of them drives a vehicle off the SAPS most-stolen top 10.
Ryan Gerber
Co-founder & MD
carGuardian / GotYou Telematics
“I drive a 2017 F34 320d GT. Tapping my code on the way out is automatic now — but the bit that stuck with me is how much more confident I feel walking back to where I parked. The car’s either still there, or it’s still there with the doors locked. There’s no third option.”
Gerhard Botha
carGuardian team
“Hilux has been target #1 every year I’ve been driving one. I’ve had two friends lose theirs. carGuardian is the first thing that stops me thinking about it every time I park at a shopping centre.”
Werner Auret
carGuardian team
“The relay attack is real — I’ve seen the kit working in our workshop tests. Knowing my Ranger won’t crank without my code is the difference between worrying about it and just driving.”
Pre-launch workshop testing · Q1–Q2 2026
Relay attack kit
Professional relay-amplifier set used against a Hilux GD-6, Ranger Wildtrak, and BMW F34 in a controlled bay. All three: engine would not crank. Zero false-positives on the drive-in entry.
Result: Blocked every attempt
OBD diagnostic tool
Industry-grade OBD programmer used to attempt fresh key programming on a Fortuner and Polo. New key paired to ECU. Engine still refused to crank without PIN.
Result: Blocked every attempt
Drive-away anti-hijack
Simulated forced-handover on a live test road. Engine cut cleanly at the configured distance (300 m default). No mid-drive cut risk at any speed in normal operation.
Result: Fired every time · zero false triggers
Testing performed internally by GotYou Telematics engineering team. Independent third-party audit planned pre-launch. No real-world theft incidents on any fitted vehicle to date — by design.

The honest line: if the unit ever fails — flat battery, breakdown, physical removal — the car reverts to factory immobiliser behaviour and starts as normal. There is no fail-closed mode. Removing the unit still requires cabin time and platform-specific knowledge, not a roadside attack.
Book My InstallationThe hijack scenario, second by second
The mechanism only matters if it works under the worst case. Here’s exactly what unfolds when a hijacker takes your car at gunpoint.
You hand over the key. You step out. You walk away. Do not try anything heroic. The system is already armed — the moment your foot left the cabin, it began counting.
The hijacker presses the start button, the engine cranks, they pull away. Nothing visible has changed. This is intentional — if the engine cuts at the gate, the hijacker turns the gun on you instead.
The system has been counting distance against the configured threshold (300–500m, set on install day with you). The threshold passes. The system silently revokes the engine-control authorisation it has been holding on the CAN bus. No alarm, no flashing lights — nothing for the hijacker to notice until the engine next needs that authorisation.
The hijacker idles the engine off (or it stalls at the stop). They try to restart — the engine refuses. They check fuel. They check the dash. They give up and leave on foot, or try to push.
The car has been stationary for several minutes. Your tracker’s recovery service dispatches. You’re at home, on the phone, unhurt. That is the design intent. Recovery becomes simple because prevention bought you the time — the car is parked, not chopped.
Important
The drive-away distance is configurable on every install (between 300m and 500m per the manufacturer’s engagement spec). Your installer sets the value with you on the day of fitment — no remote app, no settings menu a thief can find.

The questions before the form
The six concerns every buyer has, answered before you get to the reserve form — including the ones we don’t pretend to solve.
No. We install non-destructively — no cut wires, no soldered taps. A certified installer can remove the unit without trace inside an hour. Your dealer sees nothing.
Honest answer: if the unit ever fails — flat battery, breakdown, physical removal — the car reverts to factory immobiliser behaviour and starts as normal. There is no “fail-closed” mode. The deterrent isn’t bricking the car; it’s that the unit is 55×13×4 mm hidden somewhere only your installer knows, and physical removal still needs cabin time + platform-specific CAN-bus knowledge. It is not a roadside attack.
Sub-milliamp standby draw — well below what the average car battery loses to its own electronics overnight. Units have been left armed on customer vehicles parked for 6 weeks with no impact.
Call our 24/7 support line. We verify your identity the way a bank does (ID + the install-day code we issued you), walk you through a recovery PIN, and help you set a new one. Average call: under 5 minutes.
Honest answer: not yet, formally. We launch Q3 2026 with no signed discount schedule against carGuardian specifically. GotYou Telematics is an approved provider with major SA underwriters — keep your current cover until your broker confirms a switch.
No — and we won’t pretend it will. A flatbed bypasses any electronic immobiliser. That’s the recovery layer’s job. carGuardian + your existing tracker is the honest answer.

Yours not here? Mail info@carguardian.net or message us on WhatsApp.
No, and it shouldn’t. Trackers find the car after it’s gone. carGuardian stops it leaving in the first place. Most customers run both — tracker for recovery, carGuardian for prevention.
You ring our support line. We verify your identity (the same way your bank does — ID + a code we sent on install) and walk you through a recovery PIN. Then we help you set a new one over the phone. Average call: under five minutes.

No. Flatbed theft bypasses any electronic immobiliser — that’s your tracker’s job. carGuardian + your existing tracker is the layered answer.
carGuardian at R7,499 fitted sits in the same range as established SA PIN immobilisers — with three independent auth methods (PIN, encrypted keyfob, smartphone app) and a CAN-bus install most prior-generation units don’t match. Once-off, no monthly fee ever.
